Leaf People Skin Care, founded 15 years ago by Julie Levin, bloomed out of a diverse yet focused lifelong journey in herbal medicine. It began at childhood in Alaska, where she was taught how to use plants for wilderness survival and continued through Julie’s adult travels and living abroad. After graduating from San Francisco State University, her first formal introduction to Medical Herbalism occurred while living in Australia and continued as an educational theme during her three and one half year international journey, covering 17 countries on 5 continents. After returning to the United States in 2001, Julie resumed her botanical studies, which included continual mentoring under Master Herbalist Lillian McCracken, attending herbal medical school with Master Herbalist Lynn Albers, attending American Herbalist Guild Annual Conferences and making yearly trips to Bolivia to study with Indigenous Master Herbalists in the Amazon and Andes. Concurrently during these years of Herbal training, Julie met her Buddhist teacher, Lama Tsultrim Allione, developed a dedicated practice at Tara Mandala Buddhist Center in Pagosa Springs, CO and continues to integrate Buddhist medicine making practices into the manufacturing of Leaf People Skin Care. In the spirit of the giving circle, Leaf People Skin Care donates 5% of sales to non-profits.
